Economic Development
The role of this department is to recruit new business into the community, work with existing businesses so that they are successful, and improve the quality of life for the residents and visitors of the City of Griffin. We are also responsible for all activities and projects in Downtown Griffin. Any departmental related forms can be found under the Applications and Resources section of the Services tab, or by clicking here.
Mission
This department encompasses all Economic Development functions and activities for the City of Griffin as well as the administrative office for Griffin Main Street and Griffin Downtown Development Authority.
Downtown Griffin
The downtown is the heart and soul of the people, the history, and the culture within most communities, and that is no different here in Griffin. Downtown Griffin is the cultural and governmental center of Spalding County. The historic area with wide brick paver sidewalks and massive oak tree canopy, beckons the call to experience a truly southern town straight out of a storybook. Whether you join us for a 2nd Saturday event or you’re just looking for a place to shop and dine, you will feel right at home in our downtown. Looking to visit, get involved, or do business in the downtown...learn more.
Historic City Hall
Originally constructed in 1910 as Griffin’s first purpose built City Hall and Fire Station, this historic building’s grandeur is just the setting for your next event. Whether you are looking for a place to tie the knot or simply need a place for your next meeting, Historic City Hall should be first on your list in Griffin. Carefully restored through SPLOST dollars from the local community, this building is a monument of history and vision for our future. We offer many options from the original fire bay with whitewashed brick walls, solid oak doors and space that opens onto a beautiful patio; to our original courtroom upstairs with a balcony and stage that offer a more formal setting. Contact us today to take a tour of the venue or view more detailed information.
Film and Tourism
Griffin has been the backdrop to some of the most notorious productions recently, from the Hunger Games and the Walking Dead, to Black Panther and newly released Watchmen Series. Just outside of town is Tyus Park which hosts numerous Pickle Ball Tournaments and Frisbee Golf Competitions. Plus, did you know that UGA has a campus in Griffin that sees more than 40,000 visitors a year? Or that the legendary gun slinger and gambler, Doc Holliday, was born here? With easy access to Atlanta, film and tourism have resulted in more than $90 million in direct spending in Spalding County and accounts for more than 800 jobs.
