Mission

The City of Griffin Stormwater Division’s mission is to provide a comprehensive stormwater management program that will address infrastructure problems, enhance water quality, and improve the overall quality of life for our citizens.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the drainage infrastructure, which includes routine inspections, cleaning storm drain pipes and ditches, and repairing & installing drainage systems as needed.
• Oversee capital improvement projects
• Inspect new construction sites for compliance with erosion control and city development standards and monitor for illegal dumping & litter
• Supervise the planting and removal of trees within the City’s right of way
• Protect and improve the City’s surface water quality through pollution prevention and watershed improvement

City of Griffin Stormwater Division WILL:

• Inventory all components of the MS4 in the City of Griffin
• Inspect and assess all components of the MS4 in City of Griffin outside of the GDOT right-of-way
• Perform routine and corrective maintenance on all components of the MS4in City of Griffin that are publicly-owned and/or operated
• Perform routine and corrective maintenance on all components of the MS4 in City of Griffin that are within a dedicated easement and/or receive drainage directly from public property and/or dedicated easements.

City of Griffin Stormwater Division MAY:

• Perform retrofitting and/or structural improvement to components of the MS4 that are located on publicly-owned property
• Perform retrofitting and/or structural improvements to components of the MS4 that are on private property, provided the property is within a dedicated easement and/or receive drainage directly from public property and/or dedicated easements

City of Griffin Stormwater Division WILL NOT:

• Perform work on private property that is not within a dedicated easement and/or does not receive drainage directly from public property and/or dedicated easements
• Perform work on components of the MS4 that are located on commercial and/or industrial property
• Perform work on property within the GDOT right-of-way, except in emergencies
