Historic Preservation Commission
In 2002, the City of Griffin adopted its Historic Preservation Ordinance; in 2007 it adopted its Historic Downtown Griffin Commercial District. These important designation were put in place to protect and increase property values through alteration and development that are consisted with the historic character of the district.
Prior to conducting any material change, including signage and/or exterior to a building in the Historic Downtown Griffin Commercial District, business owners and/or property owners must submit an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness to the Planning and Development Services Department. Applications for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) can be obtained and submitted in the Office of Planning and Zoning at One Griffin Center.
The Historic Preservation Commission reviews all applications and conducts public hearings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Upon approval of the application a Certificate of Appropriateness will be issued to the applicant.

The Historic Preservation Commission consists of five (5) members appointed by the City of Griffin Board of Commissioners. All appointments are for three (3) year terms.

Meetings
The Historic Preservation Commission meets the second and fourth Wednesday (unless otherwise noted) of each month in the Municipal Courtroom at One Griffin Center located at 100 South Hill Street, Griffin, Georgia.
