Transfer Station / Recycling Center
The Griffin Transfer Station accepts bulky items too large for curbside pickup as well as recyclable materials and electronics waste. The transfer station is free for residential use only. Griffin residents must show ID and a copy of your City of Griffin solid waste bill.
Permitted Bulky Items
Bulky Items are accepted in the form of:
- Furniture
- Carpet and padding
- Mattresses
- Bulk recyclables like cardboard or type 1 and 2 plastics
- Recyclable metal, except appliances
- Metal auto parts except those filled with hazardous liquids
- Electronics Waste (old computers, TVs, etc.)
Prohibited Waste
Items that are not accepted:
- Construction Debris and Yard Waste (Use Shoal Creek Landfill)
- White Goods (Appliances, hot water heaters, etc.)
- Hazardous Materials
- Medical Waste
- Car batteries, used oil, and other automotive fluids
Used car batteries and used motor oil can be turned in for recycling at most local auto parts stores and some service centers. Please, do not contaminate our environment by dumping these items in storm drains or natural areas.
Many local metal recycling centers and used appliance stores will accept used appliances. Used appliances contain chemicals that can contaminate ground water when dumped in the environment. Please recycle your used appliances or have them removed when your new appliances are delivered.
Commercial Use
Commercial and County users (outside the City of Griffin without a Griffin Solid Waste Bill) are welcome to use the City of Griffin Transfer Station for a fee. Standard tipping rate of $59.24/ton applies with a $35 minimum charge (Cash and Business Checks Only). Rates are subject to change and are posted at the transfer station office.
