The City is currently working with local industry to develop a partnership for educating the community. Some activities include construction of an outdoor classroom, implementation of industry BMP’s and presentation of nonpoint source awareness literature.
Ecomasters
The City of Griffin has an interactive cd-rom game to teach children about the pollution problems facing our watersheds and how to avoid them. To obtain copies for your classroom, please contact the Public Works offices at 770-229-6424.
How Water Works
The American Water Works Association has created a virtual tour of how water is collected, treated and used in a typical water supply system. Beginning with the reservoir and wells and continuing through a water filtration plant, into the distribution system and consumer's homes, and out through a wastewater plant.
Model Water Tower Competition
The Model Water Tower Competition is a competition started by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals and hosted by the City of Griffin Water/Waste Water Department, to introduce and challenge middle school students to learn more about their water systems. The contest focuses on 6th, 7th and 8th grade students building effective, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and functioning model water towers.
